Thank you so much to everyone who gives so generously, which meant we were able to feed 1268 people in June, including 415 children.

But it’s not right for so many people to be struggling to survive on Universal Credit. There simply isn’t enough money to pay the bills and put food on the table. This needs to change.

Trussell organised a national lobby recently in Parliament when foodbanks across the UK met with 230 MPs to campaign to make Universal Credit cover the essentials of life. We were asking for UC to be uplifted by £5 a week for a single person from 2026 not by 2029 as proposed. We meet with Naz Shah MP and Imran Hussain MP both of whom were very supportive.
Your support has also helped Colin, not only with emergency food but to a whole new life and future.

‘I was homeless and got a place around the corner in January and I started using Foodbank. It was very helpful and got me going for food. I got my haircut as well which would have been £20. I started volunteering to give back as it’s kind to be kind!

I was really depressed and hadn’t left the flat much in 2 years but volunteering got me out the house and feeling like I was doing something and out of that depressing environment, there is only so much TV you can watch!

I didn’t think I was ready to start work but volunteering meant I found myself again; I was associating with people and that feeling of doing something made me feel like I am ready to get back into work.

I sat with Ali who put me on a SIA course, but then Mark at Foodbank gave me contact details for a company we both worked for in the past. One thing turned to another and I got a new job as an environmental enforcement officer.’
